love motion recreation.

Hosted video playback is web-optimized. Dimensions, timing and soundtrack are preserved. Full-quality originals on GitHub.

Full session

Everything from the recorded Claude Code session that made the recreation, in order: my 21 messages, Claude’s 169 visible replies and all 492 tool calls.

Rebuilt from the session record, with private details replaced by labels in brackets. Marked spots show where my operational messages and Claude’s notes to its own memory were left out. Claude’s internal reasoning isn’t included. Open any shell call to see its command. For a shorter read, start with How I made this.

[local media folder redacted] analyze the mp4 here and use the mp3 as the video. But replicate this video from scratch, make it identical. Got all out on motion effects, transitions, icons, to mimic this video exactly. have a judge of sonnet 5.5 critics at the end analzye so you can iteratively loop until it looks the same.

Iteration 2 is committed and pushed. The three Sonnet 5.5 judges are re-scoring it now; round 1 scored the sections 4.5, 5 and 5 out of 10. When their notes come back I'll apply them, re-render, and keep looping until the scores level off. Then I'll do the full 2880×2160 render with motion blur and your mp3 muxed in. Everything is drawn from scratch: the pixel icons, the thermal head and hand, the scribbles and the sparkle. I left the brand logo off the cap. The repo is private at github.com/EClinick/love-motion-recreation. The reference mp4, the mp3 and the font files are gitignored, and scripts/fetch-fonts.sh downloads the fonts again.
Round 2 for the opening section came back at 5.3/10, up from 4.5. Applying its notes now while the other two judges finish.

Iteration 3 is pushed, and round 3 of the Sonnet 5.5 judging is running on it. After round 2 the three sections scored 5.3, 6.0 and 5.5 out of 10, up from 4.5, 5 and 5 in round 1. What changed in this pass: - Opener: the scroll slows to match the reference, the black box sits over "you" again, and the whip-zoom resolves through pixel dots. - Ring: smaller so it no longer clips, rotates about twice as fast, and the ink ball's hits on the cap, heart, money and plant line up with their flashes. - Word cards: "action." / "intention." / "curiosity." now open on a solid block and settle to a thin bar cursor. The camera's spin, the star and the red ribbon are re-timed. - Hand: narr […]
Final section is at 6.5/10. The 17.5–19.0s letter choreography now matches well. Applying its round-3 notes: the hand and fist shape, the 17.25s strokes, smoother red loops, and dot holds.

This pass also fixed a bug the judges caught: the white typing block on the word cards could appear before its word's start time. Other changes: - Opener: the mid-zoom now reads as chunky pixel dashes, and the 0.75s signature is redrawn as a cursive line. - 3.8–4.1s: the head reveal is a dark purple silhouette that sharpens to orange, with red contour rings only around 4.0s. - Icon ring: it rolls slightly, the hit flashes are shorter and sharper, and the heart gets its ink scribble. - Scatter: ink blobs, dots and […]

The site is up, but only on your tailnet, at http://[tailnet host]:8787/ (or http://[tailnet IP]:8787/). It isn't public; I didn't use funnel. - What's on it: a project description, the current render in a player, the judge scores for each round, the latest comparison sheets (left is the reference, right is ours, click to enlarge), and the commit and render date. It shows iteration 5 now. - Checked: the page, its data file and video seeking all respond over the tailnet. Nobody has opened it in a browser yet, so the layout and the click-to-enlarge are untested. - Updating it: after each iteration I run scripts/publish-site.sh. Nothing needs restarting. - **How it's serv […]
The finale section scored 7.5/10 in the final round, up from 7.0. Its remaining notes are small: the hand at 15.0–15.5s, the 17.25s strokes, and the shape of a few loops. I'm waiting on the other two judges, then I'll do one last fix pass. The 4K render that's running now uses iteration 5; if the final pass changes enough, I'll re-render it.
Opening section held at 6.7/10. Some of its fixes (the 2.0s strokes, the 5.75s tint) caused regressions. Before changing anything else I'm checking two disputed frames, 0.75s and 7.27s, myself.

Iteration 6 is committed, pushed and on the tailnet site, along with the round-5 scores. Final judge round, per section out of 10 (round 1 in brackets): | Section | Round 1 | Final | |---|---|---| | 0–7.25s | 4.5 | 6.7 | | 7.5–14.75s | 5.0 | 7.0 | | 15–20.4s | 5.0 | 7.5 | Iteration 6 hasn't been judged; it went in after round 5. It fixes the ring's phase and the heart burst at 7.0–7.25s, which I checked side-by-side myself, along with the 2.0s strokes, the 4.0s and 5.75s head colours, the hand's forearm width, the leaping cat, and the 11.75s cap. The 2880×2160 render of iteration 5 is almost done (480 of 491 frames). Both renders write to the same working folder, so the iteration 6 rende […]

continually upddate the website with the new versions and also append the old versions in each version change ensure to spin up a sub agent sonnet for that

I'll have a Sonnet agent add version history to the site. It will rebuild the earlier iterations from their git commits, since their videos were overwritten, and archive every new version. After each future version I'll send that same agent a message to publish it.

A Sonnet agent is adding version history to the site now: - Old versions: iterations 1–6 are being rebuilt from their git commits, because the earlier preview videos were overwritten. Each gets its video, comparison sheets, judge scores and changelog. - Page: the newest version sits at the top, with an expandable history below it and a side-by-side player for comparing any two versions. - Publishing: scripts/publish-site.sh --id iterN … adds each new version to the history; re-running it for an existing version updates that entry. For each future version I'll message this same agent to publish it, so nothing on the site gets overwritten. The final 2880×2160 render of iteratio […]

Not done yet. The first 4K run got stuck on the ink-stroke burst at 17.2s, so I stopped it. That shot was blurring every tiny segment of each stroke across the full 4K frame, four times per frame for the motion blur, and the 7.5s ink arc had the same problem. Each stroke layer now gets blurred once, and those frames take about 0.4s each at 4K. The final 2880×2160 render of iteration 6 has restarted. When it finishes, the same job builds the 4K side-by-side automatically. The side-by-side tool, scripts/sidebyside.sh, puts the reference on the left labelled REFERENCE and the recreation on the right, at 2880×1080 with your mp3. I tested it on the iteration 6 preview and the length, resoluti […]

is v1 the og video? Rememebr I want side by side with original and the claude made one

No, v1 isn't the original. Every "v" is one of my recreations: - v1 is the first version I built, before any judge feedback. - v2–v6 are each round of fixes after the Sonnet judges' critiques; v6 is the newest. - The original is your downloaded video. It isn't a version and isn't in the version list. Every side-by-side video already puts the original next to a Claude-made one: | Left side | Right side | |---|---| | REFERENCE: your original video | RECREATION vN: the Claude-made version | So the site will show, for every version from v1 to v6 and every future one: 1. that version's Claude-made video on its own; 2. a side-by-side of the original next to that version […]

Iteration 6 is out as the final 4K render, and round 6 judging is running on it. The two files are next to your original in [local media folder] : - recreation_v6_4k.mp4: 2880×2160, 23.976 fps, 20.46s, with your mp3 (194 MB). - recreation_v6_sidebyside.mp4: your original on the left and v6 on the right, 2880×1080 (20 MB). The site agent is still rebuilding v1–v5 and making a side-by-side for every version; it will add the 4K and its side-by-side once it gets there. When the round-6 notes come back I'll make v7, render its preview and side-by-side, and have the site agent publish it as a new version, so v1–v6 stay on the site.
The versioned site is live: v1–v6 each have a render and a side-by-side against the original, and there's a compare player and a Final render section with the 4K download. Quick repo check while the round-6 judges work.

v7 is done and pushed. The site agent is publishing it as a new version, and the three judges are scoring it. Round 6 scored v6 at 6.9 / 7.5 / 7.5 out of 10 for the opening, middle and finale (round 1 was 4.5 / 5 / 5). v7 applies their notes: - Opening: the head at 5.75s is gold rather than pale, and the 4.0s head is crimson. - Icon ring: it slides in from further left, the dark arc above it is longer, and the cap and heart hits are re-timed. - Action card: the red star at 8.75s is taller and narrower. - Icon rows: the plant sits behind the money, and the cat is mostly hidden behind the coin. - Hand: the 13.75s intro is redder and turns more, with longer white arcs. - * […]
The finale is at 7.7/10 now, up from 7.5: the 17.3s strokes and the camera landed. Applying its round-7 notes now (hand fingers and palm, fist, smoother vinyl wedges, stroke weight, dot sizes, loop shapes) while the other two judges finish.

You were right on all three, and v8 rebuilds them: - Head: the old one was a bulbous skull on a thick, short neck with high shoulders. Now it has a slimmer neck angled forward, lower sloping shoulders, and a clearer brow, nose, lips and chin. The colour now runs from a yellow crown down to a red-orange face edge, like the reference, instead of flat orange. - Hand: the old one was a stiff fan of parallel sticks. Now the thumb sits low and points left, the index finger goes diagonally up-left, the middle finger points up and the ring finger up-right. The fingers are thicker and taper, the forearm is slimmer, and the palm has a highlight. The curl and fist poses at 15.5–15.75s use the […]
v8 is live on the site as the featured version, with its render and its side-by-side against the original. v7 now shows its scores (7.0 / 7.7 / 7.7). v1–v7 are unchanged; the site agent confirmed their checksums match. The three judges are still scoring v8. When they report, I'll make v9 from their notes, render it with its side-by-side, publish it, and judge again.
The finale scored 7.6/10. The 15.0–15.25s hand improved, but two things regressed: the fist's pointing finger at 15.75s is far too long, and the dot sizes overshot. Applying its notes while the other two judges finish.

v9 is out. Round 8 had the head going backwards (6.8 for the opening, down from 7.0), the middle up to 7.8, and the finale at 7.6. v9 targets your three points: - Head: the zig-zag hair edge is gone; it's now a soft, irregular tousled edge with a quiff over the forehead. The neck is fuller and leans back. A red-orange rim runs inside the edge, and a bright warm glow rises from the shoulders, which are now white-yellow instead of pink. - Hand: the fingers are orange-red, with the pale tone kept only on the thumb and lower palm. The wrist is narrower, the fingers slimmer, and the hand sits a little further left. The 13.75s intro is now a narrow red blur with a violet streak, not a wid […]
v9 is live on the site as the featured version, with its side-by-side against the original. v8 now shows its round-8 scores (6.8 / 7.8 / 7.6). The site lists all 9 versions, and v1–v8 are unchanged (checksums verified). The judges are still scoring v9. When their notes arrive I'll make v10 from them and publish it the same way.
Round 9 so far: the opening is back to 7.0 (the new head shape works, and 4.25–5.5s are up to 7–8), and the finale is 7.7. Remaining themes: the 4.0s head hue went pink-magenta, the figure fills carry too much grain, and the fingers merge at the base. Applying those while the middle judge finishes.

I compared the face and hand programmatically, and both are much closer now. v10 is committed and pushed, and the Sonnet site agent is publishing it. I built scripts/shape-compare.js. It grabs the same frame from the original and from our render, pulls out the orange figure in each, and measures how much the two shapes overlap: 1.0 would be an identical silhouette. It also reports widths row by row and saves an outline overlay (cyan = original, red = ours), so I could see exactly where they differed. | Frame | v9 | v10 | |---|---|---| | Head @ 5.0s | 0.745 | 0.822 | | Head @ 4.6s | — | 0.76 | | Hand @ 14.6s | 0.448 | 0.783 | | Hand @ 15.0s | — | 0.828 | What the numbers show […]
The opening holds at 7.0, and the judge rates the head shape "close" now (5.75s improved). Remaining head notes: a stronger forelock and tufts, a deeper orange crown with the pale only at the upper left, a slight S-curve on the front of the neck, a broader white shirt, and the crimson at 4.0s. The judge has also flagged the signature as "small and dark" for several rounds, so I'm checking that frame myself.

v11 is out, and the site agent is publishing it now. v10's judge scores were 7.0 / 7.9 / 8.0 out of 10 for the opening, middle and finale. In round 1 they were 4.5 / 5 / 5. One judge has asked for a longer thumb and a tighter finger fan for several rounds. The opening holds at 7.0. Its main complaint is the head's colour at 3.75–4.0s. Rather than guess at hues again, I'm measuring the head's average colour in the original against ours at those exact frames.

v12 is committed and pushed, and the site agent and judges have it. The main change is the hand, which I rebuilt rather than patched: - Fingers: each one is a tapered, jointed digit, thick at the base and narrowing to a rounded fingertip, with slight knuckle bulges. They grow out of the palm with smooth joins; earlier versions had dark notches and square patches there. - Lighting: each finger is shaded like a cylinder, with a soft highlight down the lit side and darker edges. There are faint knuckle creases and soft occlusion where one finger crosses another. - Palm: a fleshy bulge at the base of the thumb, a knuckle line across the top, and an edge that darkens toward the wrist […]
The opening holds at 7.0, and the judge makes a fair point: the mean colour now matches, but the reference's 3.75–4.0s head has structure (a bright core, a darker edge, contour bands) where ours is flat. It also flags the new red rim as a uniform glow outline; the reference's rim is strongest at the face and neck. The signature note I'm deliberately leaving: that's someone's handwriting, so ours stays an original scribble of similar size and style rather than a copy. Applying the structural fixes while the other two judges finish.

The hand is now traced from your video, frame by frame. v14 is committed and pushed, and the site agent is publishing it along with v13, which I'd committed but not yet published. | | Drawn hand (v12–v13) | Traced hand (v14) | |---|---|---| | Silhouette match vs original (1.0 = identical) | ~0.77–0.83 | 0.95–0.96 | | Hand colour at 14.0s (original #90262e) | — | #8e4033 | | Forearm colour (original #d38c22) | — | #e19745 | - How it works: a new script, scripts/trace-hand.js, pulls the hand's outline out of each frame of the hand shot (13.8s to 15.6s, 46 frames). The video then draws our thermal colouring inside that exact shape every frame, so the hand's shape and movement come s […]
The finale is up to 8.4, and the judge's verdict on the traced hand is that "it now reads as a real hand and the silhouette is essentially REF's". 15.0–15.5s scored 9/10. Remaining notes there: shading accents (a yellow-white highlight on the back of the hand and thumb, a red-brown band down the right edge), plus the drawn fist at 15.75s (index too long, too pale, rim too thick) and a few loops. Applying those while the other judges finish.

The final render of v14 is running now: 2880×2160 with motion blur and your mp3. The Sonnet site agent is handling the rest in parallel: - Final side-by-side: rebuilt with the label "CLAUDE" instead of "RECREATION" once the 4K render finishes, and put on the site's Final render section. - Web encodes: every mp4 becomes H.264 with fast-start, kept under 95 MB because GitHub rejects files over 100 MB. That covers the original, each version's render and side-by-side, and the final 4K. - Repo layout: a new media/ folder holding: - original/: your video (web version) and the mp3. - versions/v01 … v14: each version's render, side-by-side, comparison sheets, shape overlays […]

The final render of v14 is done: 2880×2160, 20.46s, motion-blurred, with your mp3 (135 MB). It also renders a side-by-side against the original. - Copied to Windows: the 4K is now in [local media folder] claude_v14_4k.mp4, next to your originals. - Still running: the Sonnet site agent is relabelling the final side-by-side "CLAUDE" and updating the site's Final render section. It's also web-encoding every mp4 and committing everything under media/ one version at a time. Once the CLAUDE side-by-side is done, I'll copy it to the same Windows folder. - main: its code is exactly v14 (I checked it against v14's commit). v15 is underway. Judge round on v14 (5 / 5.5 / 5.5): this time the judges saw larger full-frame pairs, so these scores aren't comparable to the earlier 6.8 / 7.9 / 8.4. They found plenty left to fix, and the head was the biggest gap. Head (done): it's now rotoscoped from your source frames, like the hand. The colours and the 6.0–6.25s transition are tuned against measured source colours, mostly within a few percent: - the thermal colouring, with a red rim, orange core and white-hot shirt; - the mauve wall fading in; - the offset ghost outlines; - the burn-through that eats inward to a small spot; - the white flash, then the grey silhouette. Timing bug fixed: the frame-sampling […]

Two workers are still running (opening, and hand + finale). Once both are back I'll merge, render v15, and run the next judge round.
The hand and finale worker is done too. Merging that branch:

The fade is now within a few levels of the source at both points. The three judges are still scoring v15.
The middle section scored 6/10, up from 5.5. Its notes centre on hand colour at 14.0s, the "curiosity" intro at 11.0s (a red ring and later text), the music-note layout, and the 12.5s scatter layout. Waiting for the opening and finale judges.
Important catch from the finale judge: from about 18s on, the REF and OURS labels in some pairs don't match. The time-based selection drifts between the two streams because of tiny timestamp differences, and the contact sheets have the same flaw. Switching both scripts to frame-index selection (every 12th or 6th frame), which is identical for both streams by construction:

All three worktrees are reset to v15. Waiting on the finale re-judge, then I'll launch the v16 round.
The judge again reports mismatched labels around 18–19s, though the pair I checked at 19.019s matched. If our render drops or duplicates a frame mid-stream, frame indices would drift, so I'm checking that directly:

The v16 render didn't finish. Claude Code stopped it because the system was critically low on memory. Cause (our own renderer): every one of the 20 render workers was decoding all 238 traced masks, about 1.6 GB per worker, against 23 GB of RAM. The earlier v16 attempt failed the same way, and its contact sheets and judge pairs were built from the stale v15 video, so I deleted them. Fix (committed): each worker now decodes only the masks for its own frames. A test peaked at about 400 MB per worker, roughly 8 GB in total instead of about 32 GB. I haven't restarted the full render, because a run stopped for memory pressure shouldn't be relaunched without your go-ahead. **What's in v1 […]

v17 round: first the Sonnet judges score v16, then three workers fix what they find (each verifying claims against the frames), then I merge, render, archive, push and update the site. Starting the judges and resetting the worktrees:

SSH isn't set up, and the repo (584 MB) is well under GitHub's limits, so this looks like a GitHub-side problem with pushes to this repo. I'll retry when v17 is ready to push. Waiting on the judges.
The middle section scored 6/10, unchanged from v15. The judge says the icons are about 1.3x too big and overlap at 7.5–10.5s, and that the cap, cash and plant sprites differ. Waiting for the opening and finale judges.
The finale scored 6.5/10, up from 5. This judge also says pairs 038–044 have mismatched labels. That's the second time, so I'm checking those exact files rather than assuming it's a misread:

One correction to something I told you earlier. In the v15 round I said the judges' "out of sync" complaints were false. That was partly wrong: the comparison images really did pair the wrong frames in places. ffmpeg was matching the two videos by timestamp, and tiny timestamp differences made it pair some frames 0.5s apart and duplicate others. That's fixed now. Frames are paired strictly by frame number, and I checked the labels match across the whole video, including the stretch the judges flagged. I've regenerated v15's and v16's comparison images and committed them. The judges are now re-scoring v16 on the corrected images, and the v17 fixes will be based on those reports.
On the corrected images the finale scores 7.5/10 (v15 got 5). The judge withdrew its timing complaints, and the scatter now lines up within about 3px. What's left is the scribble detail, the final lock-up tilt, the camera tilt, and the paper texture and blur. Waiting for the other two judges.
The opening scores 6/10 on the corrected images. Several of its points conflict with measurements the opening worker already made, such as paper brightness and the yellow star at 2.0s, so the v17 worker will verify each one against the frames before changing anything. Waiting on the middle re-judge.
v16 on the corrected images: 6 / 6 / 7.5. Before I dispatch workers, I'm checking the biggest middle claim (icons 1.3–1.5x too big) myself:

The push still fails. To see whether a specific commit triggers it, I'm pushing the first unpushed commit to a scratch branch:
●Bash(cd ~/dev/love-motion-recreation; git push origin 2d81372:refs/heads/push-…) command
To https://github.com/EClinick/love-motion-recreation.git

cd ~/dev/love-motion-recreation; git push origin 2d81372:refs/heads/push-test 2>&1 | tail -3; gh api repos/EClinick/love-motion-recreation/branches --jq '.[].name' 2>&1 | head
Even a tiny commit to a brand-new branch fails with GitHub's internal error, so it's a server-side problem with pushes to this repo, not anything in our commits. Everything is committed locally, and I'll keep retrying as v17 finishes.

The hand and finale v17 work is merged. Its main changes: - The lock-up tilt and size are fitted to the source. - Pen marks are measured frame by frame from 19.0s. - The paper is softer. - The camera is tilted. - The book transition, which we had inverted, is fixed. The middle/sprites and opening workers are still running.

are u having subagents work on v17 now? I thought u would do all the work?

Yes. Since v15 I've split the fix work across three parallel workers, one per section (opening, middle, hand/finale). I didn't flag that change clearly enough. - Who the workers are: forks of me, the same model (Opus) carrying this whole conversation's context, not Sonnet. Each works in its own git worktree so they don't collide, and must check every change against the exact source frames. - What I do myself: I decide what gets fixed, check the judges' claims against the frames, and merge everything. I also render, archive, commit and push. I did the head work myself, including rotoscoping and the measured colour tuning. - Sonnet: only the side jobs you asked for, which are the […]
The middle/sprites worker finished while you were reading: it redrew the coin, cat, cash, plant, cap, lens and vinyl label from source crops, and fixed icon scale and the ink strokes. That work is done whichever way you choose, so I'm merging it and passing its ring measurements to the opening worker, which is still running:
●Bash(cd ~/dev/love-motion-recreation; git ls-tree -r wt-middle --name-only | g…) command

I've merged the middle/sprites branch into main, and the code loads cleanly. So two of the three v17 sections are in: hand/finale and middle with the new sprites. The opening is the only worker still running. I've sent it the ring measurements against the new sprites, which it needs for the 7.5–8.3s ring. You'd asked whether you'd prefer I do the editing myself. Which option? - Stop the opening worker now: I finish the opening list myself, then render v17. - Let it finish v17: I do all the editing alone from v18 on. - Keep the parallel workers: faster, with me reviewing and merging.

okay if it's opus still for implementation, I okay with that

Got it. Implementation stays with Opus forks and Sonnet keeps the judging and site work. I'm saving that preference so future sessions follow it:

Left out of this replay. Claude updating its own memory notes, which is unrelated to the project, 2 steps.

The preference is saved, and the opening worker keeps going. Once it's done I'll merge, render v17, archive and commit it, retry the GitHub push, and have Sonnet judge it and refresh the site.
